Acoustic Fire Hoods
Ceiling downlighters are widely used in residential and commercial buildings. Each ceiling is subject to fire regulations and where applicable the ceiling construction needs to be fire rated.
However, once a hole has been made in the ceiling for a downlighter, the soundproofing performance of the construction is seriously reduced. In addition the ceilings ability to perform in a fire can be reduced significantly as well which can be very dangerous.
To combat this the Intumescent Acoustic Hood has been developed to give maximum acoustic and fire protection protection for holes created by he installation of downlighters and to allow for maximum ease of fitting.
In a fire situation the cover expands internally (swells to over 3 times its original thickness) to fill all the available space with a highly insulating fire resistant char. Thus, the fire is unable to penetrate the hole and the cover is able to give additional insulation protection to the ceiling void to reduce the chance of heat build up and ignition of flammable materials such as accumulated dust and insulation.
The cover also adds mass behind the ceiling light which improves the soundproofing performance. Acoustic tests show that a ceiling with downlighters and acoustic hoods installed performs to within 1dB of the equivalent ceiling without any holes in it at all!!
This product does not present any known health hazards during or after installation.
